Mermaid Birthday Wishes | Aussies Who Love Stampin' Up! Challenge #005

Hi and thanks for visiting :)

Today marks the start of our 5th fortnightly challenge over on the Aussies Who Love Stampin' Up! Facebook Group.

Our fifth challenge #AWLSU005 is a colour challenge, where you can choose to create a project with as many of these colours as you like (plus any neutrals).

Myself and the other group admins will share our creations to start off each challenge and hopefully help kick-start and inspire your creativity.

So.... I have a friend who has twin girls that are turning 1 soon and I decided to use this colour challenge (and the wonderful seahorse image) as my inspiration for their birthday card.

I managed to use 5 of the 6 colours from our colour challenge. I tried to use all 6, however I just couldn't seem to fit Marina Mist in.

The colours and the picture inspired me to create a mermaid birthday card using the Magical Day Bundle (Magical Day stamp set and co-ordinating Magical Mates framelits), Myths and Magic Specialty DSP, and of course the Number of Years stamp set and co-ordinating Large Numbers framelits.

Sadly all of these products are retiring at the end of May.

My sentiment and the number 1, were stamped directly onto the DSP in Island Indigo ink and then I cut out the 1 using the co-ordinating framelit.

Not sure about you, but I am always a little apprehensive stamping directly onto DSP, because what if I muck it up? It is definitely easier to grab another piece of plain cardstock when you mess up a sentiment. Luckily it all worked out perfectly :)

I stamped and cut out 2 mermaids and then coloured them using a combination of Stampin' Write Markers (Garden Green, Early Espresso and Pear Pizzazz) and Stampin' Blends (Light Crumb Cake and Light Bermuda Bay). The mermaids were glued together and then adhered using Mini Dimensionals.

A little something extra was needed, so I die cut a few bits of seaweed from Garden Green & Pear Pizzazz cardstock using the dies from the Magical Mates framelits. These were glued to the underside of the number 1 and then adhered to the card using Mini Dimensionals.

Thanks so much for your support and for visiting me today :)
