As promised on my Pink Water Lily Hexagonal Gift Box post and yesterdays Dragonfly Dreams Hexagonal Gift Box & matching card post, here are the instructions to make this pretty hexagonal gift box.
Start by cutting and scoring your cardstock for the base & lid as detailed below:
Lid: A4 Whisper White cardstock sheet cut in half lengthways (10.5cm x 29.7cm)
Measure and mark with a small pencil line, your 6 score lines at 4.9cm apart. This will leave you with a small tab at the end.
Score your vertical lines (4.9cm apart) and then score the horizontal lines, 2" (or 5cm) from one edge and 1/2" (or 1cm) from the other edge.
Base: A4 Soft Sky cardstock sheet cut at 14.5cm lenghways (14.5cm x 29.7cm)
Score your vertical lines at 1-7/8", 3-3/4", 5-5/8", 7-1/2", 9-3/8" & 11-1/4" and then score the horizontal lines, 2" (or 5cm) from one edge and 1/2" (or 1cm) from the other edge.
If you would like to decorate your box base, stamp the images now.
My box uses the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set and Soft Sky ink.

If your stamping design has a right way up, make sure you have the sheet with the 2" horizontal score line at the bottom (as per below).
Next, cut out small triangles to create foldable tabs in the 1/2" score line area and cut out the 1/2" & 2" thin edge pieces (marked with an X on the top dimensions image) on both the base and lid piece.
Grab your Gift Bag Punch Board and line up the score lines within your 2" horizontal section as per the image below and punch each score line and the edges. You are lining up the score line/edge with the Start Line mark on the board and the extended point on the punch.
Repeat this step on both the base & lid piece and you should end up with the below.
Cut along the remaining section of score line (within your 2" section). I like to tidy the flaps by trimming the little edge where the Gift Bag Punch Board punched out the triangles (like in the below image).
Using your Bone Folder, fold and crease all the score lines.
Using your favourite adhesive, add some adhesive to the edge tabs on each piece. I've used Fast Fuse on the box base tab (as it was wide enough) and Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue on the tiny tab on the lid.
Wrap your box pieces around and attach each tab to the other side of the box, making sure they line up nicely and press firmly to make sure they stick together well.
Using Tombow (or Fast Fuse if you'd prefer) add some glue to each of the 1/2" flaps and fold them over. Repeat for both the base & lid.
Now it is time to glue your 2" flaps together to make each part of the box. The box size is perfect to fit a roll of Stampin' Up! ribbon, so use a ribbon spool to help you keep the hexagon shape when gluing.
I used a ribbon roll on top of a plastic cup I had in my craft room, like below......
and placed my box base over the top.
Start by placing a small amount of Tombow glue at the top of one flap.
Fold the next flap over and stick it down. Place a little glue on that flap and repeat till you've reached the last flap.
Place a little glue on your last flap to prevent extra glue on base where you don't want it.
Once the base is done, leave it on your ribbon spool and cup, then place the lid piece over the top. This will help have a matching hexagon shape for a nice fitting lid.
Glue the flaps down the same way you did on the box base.
Try the 2 pieces together to make sure they fit properly.
To neaten up the inside of your box, cut a circle in the same colour cardstock using the largest circle in the Layering Circles Framelits set (approx 7.4cm in diameter).
Place a little Tombow on the die cut circle and stick it in the centre of the inside of your box.
Now it is time to decorate the box lid.
I have used the largest scallop circle in the Layering Circles Framelits to cut out my Bermuda Bay Glimmer Paper circle. My Whisper White circle was cut using the largest circle in the Stitched Shapes Framelits set. My Bermuda Bay Glimmer Dragonfly was cut using the large Dragonfly in the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits set.
If you are like me and find your glimmer paper as precious as gold, then to save some for another project, I cut out the centre of my scalloped circle with the 3rd largest scallop circle from the Layering Circles set.
And look .... you can't even tell the centre of the scalloped circle is missing once you place your stitched circle over the top.
Adhere your stitched circle to your scalloped circle, by placing a thin line of Tombow around the edge of the underside of the circle.
Centre the circle over your glimmer scalloped circle and place something flat and heavy to keep it in place until dry. I've used a clear block with 2 large punches on top.
Once dry flip it over.
And add a couple of Dimensionals.
Using the dimensionals, stick it, centred, to the lid of your box.
To finish off the box, I placed 2 mini glue dots to the body of my dragonfly and attached it to my lid.
All done! I hope you enjoyed my tutorial. If you have any questions, please do let me know.
I ended up creating a matching card to go with my box. What do you think?
