Welcome and thank you for joining me in a special Crazy Crafters team blog hop.
We are hopping with a special guest - The amazing Bibi Cameron.
The theme of this blog hop was to CASE (Copy And Selectively Edit) one of Bibi's cards.
Here are the cards of Bibi's that I chose to CASE:
I really loved the water colouring on these cards and wanted to give it a try myself.

Here are my versions:
So, I've had a brand new Black StazOn ink pad for a while now which I was a little afraid to use. I was worried that the ink would stain my stamps so I just avoided water colouring and used Memento and my alcohol markers to colour stamped images.
Well, I really wanted to try water colouring without the black bleeding (which happens when you use memento I've found out previously), so I bit the bullet and watched a YouTube video as I'd also never used my StazOn cleaner either and worked out what I needed to do and just did it. I was surprised that my red rubber stamps cleaned up perfectly using the StazOn cleaner. Now I wished I'd tried this sooner as I really enjoyed the water colouring on these cards.
After overcoming my fear of using StazOn, I stamped my turtle image from the From Land to Sea set on to some watercolour paper. I used aqua painters to paint on the water around the turtles using Bermuda Bay ink (I tried my blender pen first and the result wasn't as soft). I coloured the turtles using Blender pens and Soft Suede, Wild Wasabi & So Saffron classic ink pads.
My sentiments are stamped on using Memento ink (once my water colouring had dried completely) and come from the Guy Greetings, Watercolor Wings & Rose Wonder stamp sets. One of my sentiments I only partially inked up as I was only after the "You're in my thoughts" part of the stamp.
I then tore the bottom off each piece of watercolour paper and stamped the mesh like pattern from the Butterfly Basics set on the torn off piece. I matched the ink with the card base colours I was going to use for each card (Soft Suede & Bermuda Bay). These pieces were then layered to give the rough/torn look.

ReplyDeleteAwesome Kristen
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Kaylene :)
Deletethese are beautiful
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Tamie :)
DeleteI love the perceived simplicity of these Kirsten. The time spent can be seen with your gorgeous water colouring. Love them x
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Kim :) Yes, the colouring was time consuming but quite enjoyable and therapeutic.
DeleteI love your set of cards Kirsten, and the watercoloring splash sets it off. Angexo
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Ange :)
DeleteYou've created a beautiful set of cards Kirsten! Love the turtle on them how some are swimming up and some down. The torn paper is very effective and rustic too! I love your honesty about using black stayz on. As I was reading your post I had a little giggle. I too, was afraid to use it and the cleaner. I was also using memento in fear of ruining my stamps! How funny! But would you believe that my card for this hop was the first time I've used it too. How bizarre is that. And I only used it as I really needed to stamp onto acetate. ššš
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Louise. I've had my new sealed StazOn for about 2, maybe 3 years. Now that I've tried it I can't believe I was afraid to use it (Good to know I wasn't the only one :) ). Love your StazOn stamping on the window sheet - very cool idea :)
DeleteOh my gosh, I LOVE these little turtle cards! They are so beautiful! Love the ripped edges & honeycomb but the watercolouring is perfect! xx
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Jessie :)
DeleteWhat a gorgeous set you've created Kirsten. Just stunning! xo
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Gail :)
DeleteGorgeous set of cards Kirsten. Great case and beautiful watercolouring. It's so good you've embraced the black Stazon ink, I'm sure you'll be addicted now. There's just no other ink that can withstand watercolours unless you clear heat emboss over it. :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Juan. I think I am already addicted :) Heat embossing was going to be my backup plan, but I'm so glad I cracked open the StazOn and gave it a try. Probably should try out heat embossed water colouring too though :)
DeleteWow, Wow, Wow! So glad you've overcome your fear of Stazon and entered the world of watercolouring - you're just so good at it!! Love these cards!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Stephanie. I too am glad I've overcome my fear of StazOn, water colouring is so much fun :)
Deleteaww what a beautiful work . I found that design just perfect for nature themed cards, I'm glad you have choose it. x Bibi Cameron
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Bibi. I agree this layout is perfect for nature themed cards, I will need to try it out with some of my other stamps. Thanks so much for the inspiration and getting me to finally take the plunge into watercolouring - I really enjoyed making these. It was an honour to hop with you :)
